Compare two concrete kinds of work
CSE with AI and Machine Learning and Information Technology lead to different questions in the interest tests below. These are independent investigation tasks. Check the actual programme documents before treating any suggested subject, project or laboratory as an IEM/UEM curriculum claim.
What changes between these two investigations
The proposed CSE with AI and Machine Learning task is a held-out classification experiment; the proposed Information Technology task is an internal information service with recovery. The first centres on probability, model evaluation and experimental design, while the second centres on software integration, permissions and reliable operation. Treat this as a way to compare the work that attracts you, not a prediction of the subjects either institution will examine.
Test the distinction through failure: for CSE with AI and Machine Learning, investigate data leakage, imbalance and a weak baseline. For Information Technology, investigate an unusable backup or incorrect access policy. A convincing result needs different evidence in each case: a dataset provenance record and reproducible model comparison versus a deployment runbook, restore test and permission matrix. Ask which programme provides the teaching, supervision and access needed for the investigation you prefer.
| Independent inspection task | Evidence to request or produce |
|---|---|
| CSE with AI and Machine Learning | a dataset provenance record and reproducible model comparison |
| Information Technology | a deployment runbook, restore test and permission matrix |
CSE with AI and Machine Learning: inspect the technical work
Look for linear algebra, probability, statistical learning, optimisation and model evaluation alongside algorithms, operating systems and databases. Ask where students learn leakage prevention, experimental design and reproducibility. Count assessed practical work rather than appearances of the word AI in module titles. Check that foundational mathematics comes before specialised modelling exercises.
Construct a classifier on a dataset you are permitted to use. Separate training, validation and test observations before preprocessing, define a simple baseline and compare an improved model under the same evaluation. Explain false positives, false negatives and limitations for different groups. Keep the data provenance, random seeds and execution instructions with the results.
Information Technology: inspect the technical work
Compare programming, data structures, databases, networks, software engineering and systems administration with the alternative curriculum. Ask how students practise deployment, monitoring and access control alongside development. Check elective freedom and individual assessment. Shared recruiters or classrooms do not establish that IT and CSE have identical academic requirements.
Build an internal service with a relational database, role-based access and a documented deployment procedure. Add a backup-and-restore exercise, a basic health check and a test for an invalid update. Explain how you would investigate an unavailable service. This connects software construction with reliable operation rather than stopping at a successful local demonstration.
Compare the failure you would rather investigate
A high accuracy figure can be caused by class imbalance or information leaking from the test set. Rebuild the experiment with a protected holdout and compare against a trivial predictor. Ask whether a model still helps when conditions change. If this diagnosis interests you, the investigative side of machine learning may fit better than merely consuming AI tools.
A service can appear functional while backups are unusable or permissions expose records to the wrong user. Test restoration and least-privilege access explicitly. Separate application failures from configuration and network failures. Interest in keeping an information system dependable can help distinguish your preference from a mainly modelling or hardware-focused course.
Check the two actual admission offers
The Kolkata 2026 reference for CSE with AI and Machine Learning is 75% / 75%; PCM 50%; for Information Technology it is 70% / 70%; PCM 50%. Both displayed B.Tech totals are ₹9,45,000, so this particular dated tuition table alone does not decide between them. It excludes a full personal living and project budget and does not confirm a later joining batch.
The engineering microsite lists CSE AI and ML at Salt Lake and an AI/ML option at Jaipur. These references do not establish identical courses, fees or entry rules. Ask which programme, university and campus your offer names, then request the corresponding semester scheme and laboratory timetable.
The engineering microsite currently lists IT at Salt Lake. Verify the exact programme on the joining offer and request the department timetable or current campus listing. If another campus is proposed, obtain direct current evidence instead of transferring the Salt Lake listing across the group.
Record the reason for your choice
Choose between CSE with AI and Machine Learning and Information Technology using one verified module, one assessed task and one resource. Keep the alternative open until the programme, campus, eligibility and written offer agree.
