How IEM Salt Lake Participates in WBJEE Central Counselling
IEM Salt Lake (Institute of Engineering & Management) participates in centralized web-based e-counselling conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB). As an autonomous engineering college affiliated with MAKAUT, approximately 80% to 85% of its total undergraduate engineering intake is filled directly via WBJEE General Merit Ranks (GMR).
Candidates must carefully verify the institutional code during choice filling on the WBJEEB portal. Ensure you select 'Institute of Engineering & Management, Salt Lake' (affiliated with MAKAUT), and do not confuse it with UEM Kolkata or private polytechnic institutions.

Questions and answers
What WBJEE rank is required to get CSE at IEM Kolkata?
For General category candidates, securing Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at IEM Salt Lake typically requires a WBJEE General Merit Rank (GMR) within 3,000 to 4,800 across regular and mop-up counselling rounds. CSE specializations like AI-ML and IT usually close around ranks 5,000 to 7,500.
Can outside West Bengal students get IEM Salt Lake through WBJEE?
Yes. Students from other states can participate in WBJEE counselling and are treated under the All-India Open/General category. Since IEM is a private self-financing autonomous institution, non-domicile students are eligible for all branch allotments based on merit.
Does IEM accept JEE Main scores for B.Tech admission?
Yes. In addition to WBJEE ranks, WBJEEB conducts dedicated seat allotment rounds for JEE Main rank holders for up to 10% of engineering seats in private institutions. Candidates can also apply directly with a JEE Main percentile through institutional counselling.
What documents are required for physical reporting at IEM after WBJEE allotment?
Candidates must carry the WBJEE Provisional Allotment Letter, WBJEE Rank Card, 10th Admit Card (age proof), 10th and 12th Marksheets, Domicile Certificate (if applicable), Category/TFW Certificate (if applicable), and passport-size photographs.
