Divide 900 in the ratio 2:3.

Choose the governing principle

For a:b, shares of total T are Ta/(a+b) and Tb/(a+b).

A ratio gives relative shares. The sum of ratio parts determines the value of one part.

Worked answer

Five parts give 180 each; the shares are 360 and 540.

The answer follows the stated model and the values in this question. Preserve exact expressions when given; if you use a numerical approximation, label it and keep sufficient precision until the final step.

Audit the reasoning

Return to the wording and test the proposed answer. Check the base of a percentage, the weights in an average and the units in a rate. For language tasks, verify agreement and context without adding facts the passage never supplies.

A specific error to avoid here: Using the first ratio number as a denominator instead of the sum misallocates the total.
