Identify the role you are investigating
Compare laboratory, bioprocess, quality, research-support and data-related responsibilities with their qualification requirements. Ask which internships involved hands-on supervised work and what additional training was required. Avoid importing computing placement expectations into biotechnology. Request the branch cohort and actual role evidence, including students who continued to further study.
Ask for the work behind the internship
Design a supervised educational experiment or analyse a permitted public biological dataset with a clear question and control strategy. Define variables, repeats, uncertainty and the limits of the inference before collecting results. Explain contamination or sampling risks. A project proposal should identify required facilities and approvals rather than promising unsupervised biological experimentation.
A biological result can change because of sample preparation, contamination, measurement variation or an unsuitable comparison group. Trace these explanations before treating a difference as a discovery. Keep unsuccessful observations in the record. This exercise tests your interest in patient experimental reasoning rather than only the appeal of health or research applications.
Use a comparable cohort
For Biotechnology, request the actual programme, graduating year, number seeking work, students placed and students continuing to study. Keep multiple offers separate from unique students. Ask whether internship data describe applications, selections, starts or completed work. A placement percentage without its denominator cannot be compared fairly with another course, campus or year.
Check the skills and practical access
Inspect biological foundations, chemistry, laboratory methods, instrumentation, quantitative analysis and engineering applications in the actual curriculum. Ask about prerequisites and the supervision required for practical work. Distinguish a demonstration from experiments students perform and analyse. Confirm how records, reproducibility and safe laboratory conduct are assessed.
The current engineering microsite lists Biotechnology at New Town. Verify the location of teaching and laboratory work and the exact degree name on the offer. A group-wide reference to biology or physiotherapy elsewhere does not establish the same biotechnology programme or shared entry conditions at that campus.
Separate evidence from a promise
The IEM NIRF 2026 engineering submission is institution-level historical evidence, not a guarantee for Biotechnology. Do not replace a missing course-level record with the highest package or a group recruiter list. Keep offer evidence, joining outcomes and salary definitions distinct, and use your own project work to identify what preparation a desired role would still require.
