Compare two concrete kinds of work
Artificial Intelligence and CSE with Data Science lead to different questions in the interest tests below. These are independent investigation tasks. Check the actual programme documents before treating any suggested subject, project or laboratory as an IEM/UEM curriculum claim.
What changes between these two investigations
The proposed Artificial Intelligence task is a heuristic graph-search planner; the proposed CSE with Data Science task is an analysis of imperfect public records. The first centres on search assumptions, representation and reasoning, while the second centres on sampling, cleaning and statistical interpretation. Treat this as a way to compare the work that attracts you, not a prediction of the subjects either institution will examine.
Test the distinction through failure: for Artificial Intelligence, investigate an unreachable goal or misleading heuristic. For CSE with Data Science, investigate selection bias, missingness and a changing denominator. A convincing result needs different evidence in each case: a search trace with path cost and explored-state counts versus a data dictionary, cleaning log and uncertainty-aware explanation. Ask which programme provides the teaching, supervision and access needed for the investigation you prefer.
| Independent inspection task | Evidence to request or produce |
|---|---|
| Artificial Intelligence | a search trace with path cost and explored-state counts |
| CSE with Data Science | a data dictionary, cleaning log and uncertainty-aware explanation |
Artificial Intelligence: inspect the technical work
Ask for modules on search, reasoning, knowledge representation, learning methods and their mathematical prerequisites. Check which subjects remain compulsory in programming, algorithms, databases and operating systems. Inspect whether assessment requires an explanation of method choice and failure conditions. Distinguish using an external model from implementing or carefully evaluating an AI technique.
Create a route-planning exercise on a small graph with obstacles and weighted edges. Compare a simple uninformed search with a heuristic method, state the assumptions behind each heuristic and test situations where it performs poorly. Report the path cost and explored states. Explain how this symbolic problem differs from fitting a prediction model to observations.
CSE with Data Science: inspect the technical work
Inspect probability, statistics, database design, data cleaning, visualisation and data-engineering work. Look for assessment of missing values, sampling and uncertainty rather than charts alone. Ask how mathematical foundations connect to practical datasets and whether core computing subjects remain compulsory. Verify permissions and privacy controls for any real data used by students.
Analyse a small public dataset with a written question, a data dictionary and a transparent cleaning log. Compare a descriptive summary with an inference and explain what sampling assumptions the latter needs. Present uncertainty and missingness alongside the headline chart. Keep a reproducible pipeline so another reader can see exactly which rows and transformations produced the result.
Compare the next qualification by prerequisites
For higher study, compare a broad computer-science programme with specialised AI study by the mathematical and computing subjects each requires. Search and reasoning interests can lead to different projects from data-intensive modelling. Read admission prerequisites directly and build a small research question before applying. A clear motivation is stronger than selecting another degree because its title repeats AI.
Compare further study in statistics, computing and applied data fields by their mathematical prerequisites and research expectations. Build a portfolio that explains an uncertain result as clearly as a successful one. Before choosing a programme, test whether you prefer data infrastructure, analytical interpretation or learning algorithms. That preference helps select electives and a realistic postgraduate direction.
Check the two actual admission offers
The Kolkata 2026 reference for Artificial Intelligence is 70% / 70%; PCM 50%; for CSE with Data Science it is 60% / 60%; PCM 45%. Both displayed B.Tech totals are ₹9,45,000, so this particular dated tuition table alone does not decide between them. It excludes a full personal living and project budget and does not confirm a later joining batch.
The engineering microsite places its AI listing at New Town. Verify whether the offer describes CSE with AI or another exact award name, and where classes take place. Request the current programme document rather than using a group-wide list to infer availability at Salt Lake or Jaipur.
The current engineering listing places Data Science at New Town and also names a Jaipur Data Science option. Jaipur fee descriptions refer to an association with SAS. Obtain the programme-specific offer before comparing the Kolkata total with Jaipur figures; shared words in the title do not establish a shared fee or curriculum.
Record the reason for your choice
Choose between Artificial Intelligence and CSE with Data Science using one verified module, one assessed task and one resource. Keep the alternative open until the programme, campus, eligibility and written offer agree.
