Compare two concrete kinds of work
Artificial Intelligence and Electrical Engineering lead to different questions in the interest tests below. These are independent investigation tasks. Check the actual programme documents before treating any suggested subject, project or laboratory as an IEM/UEM curriculum claim.
What changes between these two investigations
The proposed Artificial Intelligence task is a heuristic graph-search planner; the proposed Electrical Engineering task is a safely simulated controlled electrical system. The first centres on search assumptions, representation and reasoning, while the second centres on machines, power, load behaviour and control. Treat this as a way to compare the work that attracts you, not a prediction of the subjects either institution will examine.
Test the distinction through failure: for Artificial Intelligence, investigate an unreachable goal or misleading heuristic. For Electrical Engineering, investigate a load change or uncertain operating parameter. A convincing result needs different evidence in each case: a search trace with path cost and explored-state counts versus a transient-response plot with explicit safety and model limits. Ask which programme provides the teaching, supervision and access needed for the investigation you prefer.
| Independent inspection task | Evidence to request or produce |
|---|---|
| Artificial Intelligence | a search trace with path cost and explored-state counts |
| Electrical Engineering | a transient-response plot with explicit safety and model limits |
Artificial Intelligence: inspect the technical work
Ask for modules on search, reasoning, knowledge representation, learning methods and their mathematical prerequisites. Check which subjects remain compulsory in programming, algorithms, databases and operating systems. Inspect whether assessment requires an explanation of method choice and failure conditions. Distinguish using an external model from implementing or carefully evaluating an AI technique.
Create a route-planning exercise on a small graph with obstacles and weighted edges. Compare a simple uninformed search with a heuristic method, state the assumptions behind each heuristic and test situations where it performs poorly. Report the path cost and explored states. Explain how this symbolic problem differs from fitting a prediction model to observations.
Electrical Engineering: inspect the technical work
Inspect circuits, machines, power systems, control, measurements and practical safety training. Ask how laboratory work develops from low-risk introductory exercises to supervised equipment studies. Compare modelling, simulation and measured results. Check whether industrial projects explain operating constraints rather than only ideal textbook performance.
Use a safe simulation to model a motor or controlled electrical system, define the load and compare a transient with steady operation. Record the parameters, assumptions and performance measure. Explain what would need supervised verification before transferring the model to physical equipment. A simulation report should distinguish an educational result from approval to operate machinery.
Compare the failure you would rather investigate
An apparently intelligent output may be produced by a heuristic that fails outside familiar examples. Change the goal, costs and admissible actions, then test whether the solution remains valid. Check termination and how an impossible goal is reported. This type of exercise lets you evaluate your interest in reasoning about methods rather than judging AI only by fluent output.
A system meeting a nominal target can behave poorly when the load changes or a parameter is uncertain. Vary the model deliberately and explain the response. Check whether a control choice improves one metric while worsening another. Enjoying this trade-off and the safety discipline is useful evidence when comparing Electrical Engineering with coding-focused alternatives.
Check the two actual admission offers
The Kolkata 2026 reference for Artificial Intelligence is 70% / 70%; PCM 50%; for Electrical Engineering it is 60% / 60%; PCM 45%. Both displayed B.Tech totals are ₹9,45,000, so this particular dated tuition table alone does not decide between them. It excludes a full personal living and project budget and does not confirm a later joining batch.
The engineering microsite places its AI listing at New Town. Verify whether the offer describes CSE with AI or another exact award name, and where classes take place. Request the current programme document rather than using a group-wide list to infer availability at Salt Lake or Jaipur.
The current engineering microsite lists Electrical Engineering at Salt Lake and Jaipur. Confirm the teaching location and machine-laboratory access for the offered batch. Ask which university issues the degree and whether any course activities require travel to another site. A related electrical programme name is not an automatic substitute.
