Compare two concrete kinds of work
Artificial Intelligence and CSE with Internet of Things lead to different questions in the interest tests below. These are independent investigation tasks. Check the actual programme documents before treating any suggested subject, project or laboratory as an IEM/UEM curriculum claim.
What changes between these two investigations
The proposed Artificial Intelligence task is a heuristic graph-search planner; the proposed CSE with Internet of Things task is a sensor logger with intermittent connectivity. The first centres on search assumptions, representation and reasoning, while the second centres on measurement, embedded software and transport reliability. Treat this as a way to compare the work that attracts you, not a prediction of the subjects either institution will examine.
Test the distinction through failure: for Artificial Intelligence, investigate an unreachable goal or misleading heuristic. For CSE with Internet of Things, investigate a stale reading, calibration error or lost message. A convincing result needs different evidence in each case: a search trace with path cost and explored-state counts versus a calibration note, timing log and recovery demonstration. Ask which programme provides the teaching, supervision and access needed for the investigation you prefer.
| Independent inspection task | Evidence to request or produce |
|---|---|
| Artificial Intelligence | a search trace with path cost and explored-state counts |
| CSE with Internet of Things | a calibration note, timing log and recovery demonstration |
Artificial Intelligence: inspect the technical work
Ask for modules on search, reasoning, knowledge representation, learning methods and their mathematical prerequisites. Check which subjects remain compulsory in programming, algorithms, databases and operating systems. Inspect whether assessment requires an explanation of method choice and failure conditions. Distinguish using an external model from implementing or carefully evaluating an AI technique.
Create a route-planning exercise on a small graph with obstacles and weighted edges. Compare a simple uninformed search with a heuristic method, state the assumptions behind each heuristic and test situations where it performs poorly. Report the path cost and explored states. Explain how this symbolic problem differs from fitting a prediction model to observations.
CSE with Internet of Things: inspect the technical work
Look for embedded programming, sensors, electronics fundamentals, communication, networking and backend integration. Ask where students learn calibration, power budgeting and failure recovery. Compare laboratory hours and equipment access with classroom coverage. Verify whether each student builds and measures a device or only observes a group demonstration.
Build a small environmental logger using an available sensor or a clearly labelled simulator. Record calibration assumptions, sample timing, storage and what happens when connectivity fails. Compare local buffering with immediate transmission and explain the power and reliability trade-off. The report should distinguish a measurement error from a communication problem.
Compare the next qualification by prerequisites
For higher study, compare a broad computer-science programme with specialised AI study by the mathematical and computing subjects each requires. Search and reasoning interests can lead to different projects from data-intensive modelling. Read admission prerequisites directly and build a small research question before applying. A clear motivation is stronger than selecting another degree because its title repeats AI.
Further-study interests might centre on embedded systems, communication, distributed computing or sensing. Compare prerequisites for each route before selecting electives. Build a portfolio that includes measurement logs and failure analysis, not only a video of a device connecting. Decide whether you want to deepen hardware, networks or software through the work you most enjoyed.
Check the two actual admission offers
The Kolkata 2026 reference for Artificial Intelligence is 70% / 70%; PCM 50%; for CSE with Internet of Things it is 60% / 60%; PCM 45%. Both displayed B.Tech totals are ₹9,45,000, so this particular dated tuition table alone does not decide between them. It excludes a full personal living and project budget and does not confirm a later joining batch.
The engineering microsite places its AI listing at New Town. Verify whether the offer describes CSE with AI or another exact award name, and where classes take place. Request the current programme document rather than using a group-wide list to infer availability at Salt Lake or Jaipur.
The engineering microsite lists IoT at New Town. Ask where embedded and sensor laboratories are located, how equipment booking works and whether project storage is available between sessions. A group-level IoT brochure does not establish an identical plain-IoT award at every campus.
Record the reason for your choice
Choose between Artificial Intelligence and CSE with Internet of Things using one verified module, one assessed task and one resource. Keep the alternative open until the programme, campus, eligibility and written offer agree.
