Compare two concrete kinds of work
CSE with AI and Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence lead to different questions in the interest tests below. These are independent investigation tasks. Check the actual programme documents before treating any suggested subject, project or laboratory as an IEM/UEM curriculum claim.
What changes between these two investigations
The proposed CSE with AI and Machine Learning task is a held-out classification experiment; the proposed Artificial Intelligence task is a heuristic graph-search planner. The first centres on probability, model evaluation and experimental design, while the second centres on search assumptions, representation and reasoning. Treat this as a way to compare the work that attracts you, not a prediction of the subjects either institution will examine.
Test the distinction through failure: for CSE with AI and Machine Learning, investigate data leakage, imbalance and a weak baseline. For Artificial Intelligence, investigate an unreachable goal or misleading heuristic. A convincing result needs different evidence in each case: a dataset provenance record and reproducible model comparison versus a search trace with path cost and explored-state counts. Ask which programme provides the teaching, supervision and access needed for the investigation you prefer.
| Independent inspection task | Evidence to request or produce |
|---|---|
| CSE with AI and Machine Learning | a dataset provenance record and reproducible model comparison |
| Artificial Intelligence | a search trace with path cost and explored-state counts |
CSE with AI and Machine Learning: inspect the technical work
Look for linear algebra, probability, statistical learning, optimisation and model evaluation alongside algorithms, operating systems and databases. Ask where students learn leakage prevention, experimental design and reproducibility. Count assessed practical work rather than appearances of the word AI in module titles. Check that foundational mathematics comes before specialised modelling exercises.
Construct a classifier on a dataset you are permitted to use. Separate training, validation and test observations before preprocessing, define a simple baseline and compare an improved model under the same evaluation. Explain false positives, false negatives and limitations for different groups. Keep the data provenance, random seeds and execution instructions with the results.
Artificial Intelligence: inspect the technical work
Ask for modules on search, reasoning, knowledge representation, learning methods and their mathematical prerequisites. Check which subjects remain compulsory in programming, algorithms, databases and operating systems. Inspect whether assessment requires an explanation of method choice and failure conditions. Distinguish using an external model from implementing or carefully evaluating an AI technique.
Create a route-planning exercise on a small graph with obstacles and weighted edges. Compare a simple uninformed search with a heuristic method, state the assumptions behind each heuristic and test situations where it performs poorly. Report the path cost and explored states. Explain how this symbolic problem differs from fitting a prediction model to observations.
Compare the failure you would rather investigate
A high accuracy figure can be caused by class imbalance or information leaking from the test set. Rebuild the experiment with a protected holdout and compare against a trivial predictor. Ask whether a model still helps when conditions change. If this diagnosis interests you, the investigative side of machine learning may fit better than merely consuming AI tools.
An apparently intelligent output may be produced by a heuristic that fails outside familiar examples. Change the goal, costs and admissible actions, then test whether the solution remains valid. Check termination and how an impossible goal is reported. This type of exercise lets you evaluate your interest in reasoning about methods rather than judging AI only by fluent output.
Check the two actual admission offers
The Kolkata 2026 reference for CSE with AI and Machine Learning is 75% / 75%; PCM 50%; for Artificial Intelligence it is 70% / 70%; PCM 50%. Both displayed B.Tech totals are ₹9,45,000, so this particular dated tuition table alone does not decide between them. It excludes a full personal living and project budget and does not confirm a later joining batch.
The engineering microsite lists CSE AI and ML at Salt Lake and an AI/ML option at Jaipur. These references do not establish identical courses, fees or entry rules. Ask which programme, university and campus your offer names, then request the corresponding semester scheme and laboratory timetable.
The engineering microsite places its AI listing at New Town. Verify whether the offer describes CSE with AI or another exact award name, and where classes take place. Request the current programme document rather than using a group-wide list to infer availability at Salt Lake or Jaipur.
Record the reason for your choice
Choose between CSE with AI and Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence using one verified module, one assessed task and one resource. Keep the alternative open until the programme, campus, eligibility and written offer agree.
