IEMCET BBA/BCA aptitude preparation: Tense and time reference — practice worksheet with answers

How to use this worksheet

This independent worksheet checks tense and time reference with a new problem, an explanation task and an interleaved related skill. It is not an official IEM question paper, a difficulty forecast or a prescribed timed examination.

Write an attempt first, then compare your method with the visible answers. Record whether a miss came from interpretation, a missing concept, execution or a condition you overlooked.

Question 1: apply the topic

In She had left before the class began, which action is earlier?

Answer and checking point

Her leaving is earlier than the beginning of the class.

Return to the wording and test the proposed answer. Check the base of a percentage, the weights in an average and the units in a rate. For language tasks, verify agreement and context without adding facts the passage never supplies.

Question 2: diagnose an approach

Explain why the following warning matters and identify the correction it calls for: Changing a tense without checking the full time relationship can change the meaning rather than repair it.

Model checkpoint: Tense selection should match the sentence's intended time relationship and context. A memorised keyword alone is insufficient. Governing rule: Distinguish an event's time from its relation to another event or the present.

Question 3: transfer to vocabulary from context

In a passage where a result is described as tentative pending more data, what does tentative suggest?

Answer: Provisional rather than final.

This is an interleaved related-skill task, not a claim that the two topics have identical methods. Explain which idea changes when switching from the main topic to this one.

Review the attempt
