Mechanical Engineering: internship and placement evidence questions for IEM and UEM

Identify the role you are investigating

Investigate design, production, quality, maintenance, thermal and software roles independently. Ask what branch graduates did during internships and whether they received supervised access to a real engineering task. Compare actual joining roles, cohort counts and employment conditions. Group-wide software recruitment should not be presented as proof of mechanical-core placement outcomes.

Ask for the work behind the internship

Design a simple mechanical component for a stated load using transparent assumptions. Compare alternative dimensions or materials, explain the manufacturing constraints and identify what a physical test would need to verify. Include tolerances and the limits of the model. Keep the drawing and calculation reproducible rather than treating an attractive rendering as sufficient evidence.

A component can look plausible in CAD while a load assumption, boundary condition or material model makes the result unreliable. Change one assumption at a time and explain the sensitivity. Inspect whether the design can be manufactured and measured. This exercise helps separate an interest in physical engineering from an interest in visual modelling alone.

Use a comparable cohort

For Mechanical Engineering, request the actual programme, graduating year, number seeking work, students placed and students continuing to study. Keep multiple offers separate from unique students. Ask whether internship data describe applications, selections, starts or completed work. A placement percentage without its denominator cannot be compared fairly with another course, campus or year.

Check the skills and practical access

Inspect mechanics, materials, design, manufacturing, thermodynamics and laboratory or workshop assessment. Ask how CAD and simulation connect to physical dimensions, tolerances and testing. Compare access to equipment and project supervision. A software licence without opportunities to design and evaluate a part does not establish strong practical teaching.

If another programme title or location is offered, obtain its current source before transferring these references. Confirm that practical requirements and equipment access are documented for the joining batch.

Separate evidence from a promise

The IEM NIRF 2026 engineering submission is institution-level historical evidence, not a guarantee for Mechanical Engineering. Do not replace a missing course-level record with the highest package or a group recruiter list. Keep offer evidence, joining outcomes and salary definitions distinct, and use your own project work to identify what preparation a desired role would still require.
