How to verify an IEM or UEM admission claim

Follow a claim back to the institution, the right batch and a document that actually supports it.

Independent Akash Talks guidance. Official application, admission and fee decisions belong to the institution. How we verify information

Identify who owns the claim

During admission season, thousands of unofficial promotional messages, sponsored forum posts, and commercial counselling consultancies advertise admission offers. Always check the origin of any claim: does it originate from the official registrar or admission committee of IEM/UEM, or from a third-party lead generation agency?

Official announcements are published on official `.edu.in` or registered college domains. Third-party portals frequently recycle outdated fee structures or invent speculative cutoff ranks to collect student phone numbers.

Check the date and scope

Admission policies, fee schedules, and entrance exam patterns evolve annually. Ensure that any notice, exam notification, or placement brochure is explicitly dated for the current admission cycle. Reusing 2024 or 2026 notices for 2027 admissions leads to incorrect assumptions regarding deadlines, eligibility percentages, and exam syllabi.

Also confirm the scope of the claim. A placement package, NIRF ranking, or accreditation grade awarded to one campus (such as IEM Salt Lake) cannot be automatically claimed for another campus or newly launched branch without separate verification.

Compare conflicting sources

If you encounter conflicting numbers—such as a marketing banner claiming a ₹32 LPA highest package while a regulatory report cites ₹10 LPA—track down the primary source document. Cross-check against the mandatory NIRF institutional submission, university annual reports, and AICTE disclosure tables.

Regulatory filings are submitted under penalty of perjury and provide audited, verifiable data including actual median salaries, graduating batch sizes, and higher education progressions.

Avoid guaranteed outcomes

Be deeply cautious of claims promising '100% placement guarantees', 'direct confirmed management seats without merit eligibility', or 'assured high-package jobs'. Legitimate admissions strictly observe eligibility criteria, entrance examination merit (WBJEE, JEE Main, IEMJEE), and official counselling rounds.

Reputable institutions do not guarantee corporate salaries in advance; placement outcomes reflect individual academic competence, project work, coding problem-solving skills, and external economic hiring cycles.

Admission verification protocol

Use this standard protocol whenever you need to verify an admission claim:

Never hand over original certificates or transfer booking money without receiving an official stamped institutional acknowledgment.

  • Check the official college website directly (avoid landing pages from paid ads)
  • Review AICTE Extension of Approval (EoA) and NIRF data sheets
  • Call the verified admission helpline published in official brochures
  • Report suspicious agents claiming guaranteed seats to the college grievance cell
