Frequently Asked Questions

Q. When will WBJEE 2027 registration start?

Online registration for WBJEE 2027 is expected to commence in the last week of December 2026 on wbjeeb.nic.in and close by late January or early February 2027.

Q. What is the expected WBJEE 2027 exam date?

WBJEE 2027 is tentatively scheduled for the fourth Sunday of April 2027. The exam runs in two shifts: Paper 1 (Mathematics) from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and Paper 2 (Physics & Chemistry) from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Q. Can outside West Bengal students appear for WBJEE?

Yes, students from any Indian state can appear for WBJEE. Non-domicile candidates are treated under the All-India General category and are eligible for all private engineering institutions (like IEM Kolkata, Techno, Heritage) and unreserved seats in select state universities.

Q. Is a Domicile Certificate required at the time of WBJEE registration?

No. A domicile certificate is not needed during the online registration process. However, you must present a verified West Bengal Domicile Certificate (Proforma a1, a2, or b) during physical reporting and counselling to claim state quota, reserved category, or Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW) seats.

Q. What is the marking scheme and negative marking in WBJEE 2027?

WBJEE has three categories: Category 1 (1 mark each, -0.25 deduction for wrong answers), Category 2 (2 marks each, -0.5 deduction for wrong answers), and Category 3 (2 marks each, multiple correct options, zero negative marking with partial marks for correct options selected).

The application fee is ₹500 for General Male candidates, and ₹400 for General Female candidates and all reserved category (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/TFW) candidates, payable online.

Q. What is the difference between GMR and PMR in WBJEE?

GMR (General Merit Rank) is prepared based on Paper 1 (Maths) and Paper 2 (Physics & Chemistry) scores for admission to Engineering, Technology, and Architecture courses. PMR (Pharmacy Merit Rank) is prepared based on Paper 2 only for admission to Pharmacy courses.

Q. What should I do if my WBJEE rank is not high enough for top colleges?

If your WBJEE rank falls outside the closing rank for top branches, you can explore institutional counselling, JEE Main quota seats, IEMJEE for IEM/UEM campuses, or management quota admission in private engineering colleges. Akash Talks provides personalized counselling to evaluate your best options.
