Highest vs average vs median placement salary

Compare college placement figures using the cohort, salary definition and number of students behind each statistic.

Independent Akash Talks guidance. Official application, admission and fee decisions belong to the institution. How we verify information

Highest package

The highest salary describes one end of a distribution. Ask whether it is domestic or international, fixed or total compensation, and whether the offer was accepted.

Average and median

The average can be shifted by a small number of large salaries. The median marks the middle reported salary. Neither describes every student or necessarily every branch.

Students and offers

One student can receive several offers. Ask how many students were eligible, how many were placed and which graduating year and campus the numbers cover.

Use consistent sources

Compare the same metric for similar cohorts. IEM’s NIRF 2026 submission gives a dated UG median and counts; do not mix it with an undated social-media highest-package claim.

Official sources and verification

Sources checked on 26 October 2026. A source’s date, programme and campus limit which claims it supports. Official pages may change after review.
